Young Outlasts Curie

Whitney Young overcame foul trouble and an 8-point halftime deficit to set up a rematch with Simeon Friday Night. Check out video from the game here.

Maybe Whitney Young was looking ahead to a potential rematch with Simeon, but for whatever reason, they were stunned when Curie kept coming at them, amassing an 8 point lead at halftime.

Throw in the fact that star junior big man Jahlil Okafor picked up his 4th foul by the 2:30 mark in the third quarter, and you would think that Young would be in big trouble.

But big performances from the rest of the cast, especially junior L.J. Peak, carried Young past those obstacles en route to a sectional final berth against rival Simeon.

Peak, who finished with 23, made several key baskets for Young with Okafor on the bench. Paul White also had a solid game, cracking double digits in the scoring column.

Cliff Alexander finished with 13 points and 8 rebounds. The big man more than held his own against Okafor and showed off some new post moves in the process with Illinois assistant Paris Parham in attendance.
