Beneventi Hits the Road

Lisle (IL) Benet Academy sophomore signal caller Jack Beneventi visited Illinois and is already finding a lot to like in Chambana.

Jack Beneventi may only be a sophomore, but he's already turning into one of the most-wanted quarterbacks around. Holding offers from Western Michigan and Illinois, Beneventi is on the verge of a number of offers.

He's spent some of his spring break taking college visits, including Notre Dame on Tuesday and Illinois on Wednesday. Beneventi had a lot of positive things to say about the trip to Illinois.

"The visit was great! Best visit I've been on so far," he said. "It was awesome to go down there knowing I already had the offer because I could look at the campus and say 'I could be here.' I loved it at Illinois."

A big reason Beneventi has grown to like Illinois so much in such a short amount of time is new offensive coordinator Bill Cubit. Beneventi sees the new offensive scheme has a great fit for him.

"He's implementing a great pass attack offense that fits me very well," he said. "I was impressed by the new offense and really like Coach Cubit and Beckman. I could see myself playing for them since they remind me of Coach (Pat) New."

Getting to know Coach Cubit is a good thing according to Beneventi. Cubit is not only the offensive coordinator, but he coaches quarterbacks, and that relationship could come in helpful in the future.

"It's a great thing, because I've developed a great relationship with Coach Cubit already," he said. "I would be able to continue that as I'd be around him all the time as a quarterback."

This time around, Beneventi also got to spend some time with a fellow quarterback, an athlete from his neck of the woods, and a couple of backfield players for Illinois.

"I was able to talk to Nathan Scheelhaase and Matt LaCosse a lot," he said. "I also met Josh Ferguson and Donovonn Young."

Of course, there was one guy on the team he knew better than anyone else, even before the visit.

"I also got to talk with Pat Flavin too, and he's a graduate from Benet Academy. He's a great guy."

Still, Beneventi is just getting started on the recruiting process.

"I like that I have a lot of time to get comfortable with certain schools so I can decide the best fit for me," he said. "I'm really looking for a school with a passing offense that prepares me the best. Also, I really want a school with a large student body and a good-sized campus."

With school still going for another couple of months, visits will be a little slower, but come this summer, Beneventi plans to go see more schools that are showing him interest.

"One school I'll probably visit is Penn State," he said. "I'm hoping to take a lot of visits this summer."
