Scouting Report: The Family

Last year, James Young was the marquee player for The Family's AAU program, but this year, two young guys are on the rise in a hurry.

The Family had a solid weekend as a team, but two of their guys really stepped up in key situations:

C - Trevor Manuel

Trevor Manuel, a former member of the Meanstreets program, is developing his skills well at a very early age. Many guys that are at his height (6'8") and at his age haven't yet adapted to their body, but Manuel moves well for his size.

Manuel showed good touch around the basket, and had his offensive game working well. But what was more impressive was how physical he was in crashing the glass. He's a bit of a wiry guy who has yet to fill into his frame, but he controlled the defensive glass and kept a lot of possessions alive with some offensive boards as well.

SG - Eric Davis

Davis, who holds an offer from Illinois, went on a tear during a matchup with Chicago Lockdown in which he took over for his team and went on a scoring spree. While I think he didn't look to his teammates enough during that stretch and got tunnel vision, but he was still able to get buckets and create for himself.

Davis hit shots from outside and was effective in driving through traffic to get to the hoop. He plays a little recklessly, but he keeps the heat on the other team and finishes more times than not. He also displayed a good pull-up jumper off of the dribble.
