Swanigan Lands first B1G Offer

Illinois is jumping out to a head start with a fast-rising 2016 big man out of Ft. Wayne, IN. See what his reaction was to landing his first major offer from Illinois.

Caleb Swanigan may have only been a rising sophomore this spring, but the 2016 big hung with the best of them on the EYBL circuit with the Spiece Indy Heat at the 17U level.

He moves extremely well and has both great size (6'8") and post moves for his age. And to think, he's getting looked at by some of the biggest programs in the country for football as well.

But on Wednesday he landed his first Big Ten offer and first major conference offer from John Groce and the University of Illinois.

"Coach Groce from Illinois offered me," he said.

Swanigan, who's other offer currently is from Chicago State, said the offer caught him a bit off guard.

"I was surprised because up to this point, I hadn't heard much from them," he said. "But hearing about the past big men coach has recruited makes me excited and feel like I'm in good company."

Swanigan, who also reports heavy interest from Purdue, Indiana, and Michigan State, is likely to pick up more offers fairly soon as the dominoes start to fall.
