Day Three: Team Orange Tidbits

Quick hitting news and notes from Illinois' Team Orange morning practice on Day Three of fall camp.

CHAMPAIGN - It was the orange team's turn for the early wake-up call Wednesday, with the ones and fours taking the morning session. Here are a few notes from the open period of the practice…

- The day marked the first in shoulder pads, but any serious contact is still a few days away.

- Reilly O'Toole was the quarterback leading the No. 1 unit. No, he hasn't passed Nathan Scheelhaase for the starting job. Instead, this was a planned move by the staff to give each quarterback time with as many different wide receivers as possible. O'Toole and Aaron Bailey were the quarterbacks with the orange team today. Scheelhaase, Wes Lunt and Chase Haslett will be with the blue team this afternoon.

- Tight end Jon Davis wasn't in a green jersey like the previous two days, indicating he's full go.

- Cornerback V'Angelo Bentley was in green, though he was still with the No. 1 defense and was moving fine. One thing I've noticed about Bentley is he's always taking reps, even when he's on the sideline watching the backups in there. He stands as close as possible and watches everything intently. This isn't uncommon out there, but Bentley seems invested in every play. He spent a lot of time talking up freshman Jaylen Dunlap, especially helping him pre-snap and re-convening after each play to give a pat on the back or point something out.
