Friday Night Lights: Providence at Minooka

Following a tough loss in a shootout with Joliet Catholic last week, Providence Catholic is looking to rebound this week as they travel to take on Minooka.

Week 1 brought a 42-35 loss to Joliet Catholic, but Providence Catholic is hoping to bounce back this week when they head to Minooka.

Junior Miles Boykin had 6 receptions for 141 yards and 2 touchdowns in the loss. Quarterback Justin Hunniford finished 29 for 38 for a total of 340 passing yards. So it's clear that Providence is looking to air it out more this year.

Those are impressive numbers on most nights, but the Providence defense surrendered 310 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries by Joliet Catholic tailback Michael Ivlow.

Minooka comes into the game at 1-0 after a 21-14 win over Morris last week. Offensive lineman Paul Stawarz stands big at 6'4" and nearly 300 pounds for Minooka.

Providence has the more potent offense, but will the defense shore things up after last weekend's performance?

Here's a closer look at what we might see from Providence's key offensive player Miles Boykin:

Boykin is a tall, physical receiver who also has good speed and is already becoming a polished route runner. Physically he's a mismatch for just about any defensive back. The key in this one (and really for the rest of the season) isn't whether or not he can make the catch, but rather whether or not they can get him the ball enough. He'll likely see double coverage all year, so learning how to cope with that early in the year will help come playoff time.

Another player who doesn't get much PR for Providence but plays a huge part in their offense is lineman Logan Plantz. He isn't the tallest guy out there, but nobody on the field plays nastier than Plantz. He's strong and plays with great pad level. He doesn't take a play off, and if he makes a mistake on one play, he comes back twice as strong on the next. He will be instrumental in giving Hunniford time to throw.

Game will kick off in Minooka at 7PM. IlliniPlaybook will be on hand to bring you all the coverage from the game.
