Ekey scored 19 points for the second straight game, leading the team in scoring by hitting 7 of his 10 shots (5-for-8 on treys). He had six rebounds, three coming on the offensive glass. Again, it's a shame there's no official count for tips that led to rebounds for others -- assisted rebounds. Ekey easily leads the team in those.
"Our last thing leading up to this was, hey, we've got to know where 33 is at all times," Chicago State Coach Tracy Dildy said. "We even doubled him at times."
Three stars next in line:
As efficient a player as Illinois has, Bertrand scored 12 points and had eight rebounds. He took only six shots, hitting four and adding two steals and two assists.
Rice had 12 points, five coming in one spurt in the second half that helped the Illini take control the of the game for good. Rice finished with two rebounds, two assists and two steals in 33 minutes of play.
He struggled again from the floor, hitting only 3 of his 11 shots. But his stat sheet read: 12 points, five assists, four rebounds, one block and a steal. Abrams has moments where he struggles. He has others where he shines.
