But this weekend, he and several other commits took their official visits to Champaign. Dudek, who has visited several times and knows the program inside and out, got to experience the campus from a different perspective than he had before.
"I had a great visit," Dudek said. "All the guys on the team are really cool, and my host DJ (Dionte) Taylor is an awesome guy and we connected well. He showed me a good time."
The visit also reaffirmed the academic benefits of Illinois to Dudek.
He said, "I was really impressed with the academics and how much help you will receive."
Several members of the incoming class have already been getting to know each other really well, and many of them already met at the Soldier Field game against Washington. Many of them got to hang out again this weekend, which Dudek thinks will help them get a head start when it comes to building chemistry.
"It's awesome," he said. "I mean we are all so tight already and talk every day, so it's going to help us transition on the field better. We know one another so well already."
Dudek also got to meet Wes Lunt, who he could potentially be catching passes from next season.
"I talked to Wes a little bit," he said. "He's a really nice guy. He can really sling it, too."
Dudek finished his senior season with 69 catches for 1384 yards (~20 yards per catch) and 19 touchdowns receiving. He also had 30 rushes for 278 yards and 3 touchdowns. In the return game, Dudek added 21 kick returns for 692 yards (average of 33 yards)and two touchdowns.
