Kansas Added to the Schedule

Mark your calendars -- Illinois and Kansas are set to square off nearly a decade from now.

CHAMPAIGN - The chance for revenge against Kansas for the Cliff Alexander episode is set in stone.

It's on the football field and nearly a decade from now, but still, the Illini will square off with the Jayhawks.

The two schools finalized and announced a home-and-home series for the 2023 and 2024 football seasons.

Illinois will travel to Lawrence, Kansas first, with a return date in Champaign the following season.

Both games will take place in September.

"This series with Kansas is another great addition that fits in with our scheduling philosophy," Illinois athletics director Mike Thomas said. "We have set out to schedule games against some outstanding institutions and I feel like we've done that with home-and-home series finalized for North Carolina, South Florida, Virginia and now Kansas."

Illinois holds a 3-2 record all-time against the Jayhawks, although Kansas won the last meeting 47-4 in 1968.

Of note on upcoming games against opponents from major conferences…

- In 2014, Illinois will face Washington in Seattle, a return trip following last season's game in Chicago's Soldier Field.

- Dates with North Carolina are on the slate for 2015 and '16. A trip to Chapel Hill comes first, followed by the Tar Heels paying Memorial Stadium in '16.

- 2017 and '18 features South Florida on the schedule. The Illini will travel to Tampa first, with the Bulls returning the visit in '18.

- A few years later, then comes Virginia. Illinois is set for Charlottesville for Sept. 11, 2021, with the Cavaliers coming to Champaign the following season.
