Alabi Stops By Champaign

Illinois hosted a slew of top targets on their recruiting board on Saturday, and while much of that crew was comprised of in-state targets, a couple prospects from Detroit-area powerhouse Cass Tech made the trip.

Joshua Alabi is hard to miss. At 6'4", 300 pounds, he is a load on the defensive line.

Illinois made some improvements to the defensive line with the 2014 class with signings such as Jihad Ward, Paul James, Joe Fotu, Carroll Phillips, and Tito Odenigbo. However, the Illini are still looking for that game-changing interior defensive tackle.

Alabi is one of the prime targets at the position, and he joined Cass Tech teammate Mike Weber for a visit to Champaign on Saturday for a junior day.

"It was great," he said. "I like the facilities, the coaches, and the environment there."

Alabi said that the visit was more or less what he expected coming in. He was also looking forward to spending some time with his recruiting coach and the individual who would be his position coach at Illinois.

"I've been talking with the D-Line coach, Coach Colby," he said. "He's a very cool guy and I could see myself playing for him."

Alabi also got to spend some time speaking with former Cass Tech defensive lineman Kenny Nelson about his time so far at Illinois.

Other than Illinois, Alabi has seen or plans to get out to other schools like Miami, Penn State, USC, UCLA, and Louisville.
