First up, transfer quarterback Wes Lunt. He's expected to be the starter and has optimists seeing laser touchdown passes being thrown by the dozen...
Ryan Easterling - Prodigal
Lunt was the one that went away for greener pastures, but things didn't go quite how he expected in Stillwater despite winning the starting job as a true freshman. At the end of the day, the ultra-talented Central Illinois product returned home and is the guy considered to be the frontrunner for the starting job at Illinois. He's found success at Memorial Stadium in the past, and Illinois fans hope he can recapture that mojo really soon.
Taylor Rooks - New
People love the shiny new toys, and that's Wes Lunt. He's been hyped up and now people want to see if he backs it up. His arm is crazy strong, and he was able to showcase his talent in the spring game, and in my opinion, even overshadowed Bailey a bit. We know Bailey is strong, but Lunt showed play making ability. He's new. And he brings new ideas and new talent.
Fletcher Page - Hype
Hype usually has a negative connotation, but the extensive publicity Lunt has been the center of is exactly what Illinois needed. It's not like the offense would be in complete ruin without Nathan Scheelhaase, but Aaron Bailey might not be ready and Reilly O'Toole might not ever be. Lunt could fall short of being the second coming of Jeff George, but offseason talk has been over-the-top positive. And any time the Illini can get some positivity flowing, that's a very good thing.
