Paul Headed to Texas JUCO

Darius Paul can return to Illinois after a season at Lamar State-Port Arthur.

Darius Paul will see action on the court this upcoming season.

The former Western Michigan standout is joining Texas junior college Lamar State-Port Arthur for 2014-15 season.

Paul sat out last season at Illinois due to transfer rules and was projected to be a major contributor for the Illini the next three seasons. An April 22 arrest changed those plans. Paul, the younger brother of former Illinois star Brandon Paul, was charged with and pled guilty to underage drinking.

Paul will be able to return to Illinois after spending one season at the junior college.

"I am confident that Darius will grow as a person, student and player during his time at the college," Illini coach John Groce said. "Illini Nation is behind him."

The 6-foot-8 Paul gained nearly 30 pounds during his season at Illinois, according to John Groce. He was slated to be in the mix to start at the power forward spot and could also play center as well. He averaged 10.4 points and nearly six rebounds a game at Western Michigan, earning MAC Freshman of the Year.
