Edwards Sees Champaign Again

A decision is not far off for Downers Grove North TE David Edwards, so he's taking one last round of visits before making his choice between three Big Ten programs.

David Edwards is seeing his recruitment both heat up and wind down at the same time. The 2015 TE from Downers Grove North High School has effectively narrowed his list to three Big Ten schools.

With visits to Iowa and Wisconsin coming in the near future, Edwards spent the night in Champaign Friday night after hanging out at the Illini'S Friday Night Lights camp.

Having already been on the Illinois campus several times prior, Edwards was really looking to immerse himself in the environment he would experience and the people he would be around should he end up at Illinois.

"It was a fun visit," he said. "I just wanted to get around the players because those are the guys I could potentially be playing with for a while."

Two of the players Edwards spent considerable time with while in Champaign were two of his fellow members of the 2015 recruiting class and Illinois commits Jimmy Fitzgerald and Gabe Megginson.

"They asked me when I'm going to make my decision," Edwards said. "They told me how cool of a place it is and how they want me to be a part of it."

Illinois tight ends and running backs coach Alex Golesh has spent a lot of time and effort in building a relationship with Edwards throughout his recruitment. Edwards was looking forward to the opportunity to further develop that bond.

"I've always had a great relationship with them," he said. "Just building it more is important to me."

Following his visit to Illinois, Edwards will travel to Iowa and Wisconsin for visits then sit down with his family to make a decision. He doesn't anticipate any other visits beside those two.

Edwards anticipates making his decision in early-mid July. At this time, he says he is still undecided and isn't willing to name a leader.

"It's all really close," he said. "No definite leader. I will know, though, after all of my visits. Once I know, I will call all of the coaches and tell them and tell my family."
