"Barr" Hopping

Illinois added 2014 JUCO WR Raphael Barr after his weekend visit to Champaign, providing yet another weapon at the receiver spot this fall.

Thought to originally be done with the 2014 recruiting class, Illinois went back for one more, adding 2014 Citrus College receiver Raphael Barr after he visited Champaign this weekend.

The 6'2" 190 pound Barr gives the Illini yet another weapon with JUCO experience at receiver after already inking receivers Geronimo Allison (Iowa Western) and Tyrin Stone-Davis (L.A. Pierce CC) in 2014.

Barr will have 4 years to use three seasons of eligibility at Illinois, which is the same scenario as Stone-Davis.

Barr arrived on campus late Sunday evening and decided to conclude his recruitment prior to his Tuesday departure.

He went into the weekend saying he was "90% sure he would commit." and made good on his original plan.

Regarding the commitment, Barr was excited to make his pledge.

"I feel honored and humbled that they want me," he said.

The visit really sealed the deal for Barr, who was plenty excited to see Illinois firsthand.

Barr, who also held offers from Memphis and UAB, talked about what really set Illinois apart and ultimately sold him on the program.

"I was really sold by the coaches," he said. "That and Illinois being ranked #24 nationally in academics."

He continued, "Being #2 in my major, communications, doesn't hurt as well as them having a strong alumni group."

Now Barr is ready to get to work at Illinois and join what is sure to be a potent Illini offense.

He said, "I see myself playing my role to help the offense get further than it has in the past."

As far as eligibility goes, Barr has 4 years in which to play 3. He plans to enroll and arrive on campus sometime this summer and hit the ground running.
