With already two commitments on the list, the Illini staff added another on Wednesday.
Zeke Martin, a 6-foot-5, 280-pound tackle from Medina, Ohio, gave his pledge a few days after visiting the campus. Martin held offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo and a few others. He also garnered interest from the likes of Michigan State and West Virginia.
If other big-name schools were going to offer, it may be too late. Led by o-line coach A.J. Ricker and linebackers coach Mike Ward, the Illinois staff paid Martin more attention and expressed more interest than the others, early and often. The Illini offered in late May and wrapped the recruitment up with the visit last weekend.
Illinois now has seven verbal commitments in the 2015 class — all on the offensive side of the ball. Martin joins Gabe Megginson and Adam Solomon as offensive linemen aligned with the Orange and Blue.
