Narain Nets Illinois Offer

The latest 2016 offer for the Illini came on Tuesday as La Lumiere (IN) rising junior forward Nolan Narain scored an offer. The skilled power forward who plays with UPlay Canada impressed the Illinois coaching staff with his play during the first July evaluation period in Indianapolis.

Nolan Narain checks in at #68 in the latest 2016 rankings and the #12 power forward. The four man tells us he had a big day on Tuesday picking up four new offers.

“(I received offers) from Gonzaga, Illinois, Xavier, and Fairfield,” Narain said.

He spoke with us about how the offer from Illinois went down.

“I first heard about the offer over twitter until Coach Dustin Ford called me shortly after to tell me the good news,” he said.

Narain was pumped to be the latest Canadian prospect to receive an offer from the Big 10 program.

“I was extremely happy and excited,” Narain said

Illini assistant coach Dustin Ford has great connections in Canada. Narain spoke about his relationship with his lead recruiter.

“I really like Coach Ford’s outgoing personality," he noted. "He’s a very nice man and easy to talk to. I really like how they are a strong academic program and basketball program! I also like that they are in the Big 10 and have great fan support.”

What has the Illinois coaching staff told him they are impressed by in his game?

“They like my length, height, and athleticism," Narain said. "They also like how versatile I am!”

To date he holds offers from Illinois, Gonzaga, Xavier, Fairfield, Dayton, Buffalo, North Florida, and Charlotte. Expect even more to follow as he gets more exposure this high school season playing alongside Jalen Coleman at La Lumiere.

We evaluated the rising junior while at the Nike Elite 100 Camp in June. Scout.com’s Brian Snow saw Narain play at the Adidas Invitational last week and had this to say about the latest 2016 prospect to receive an Illini offer.

Scouting Snapshot

His teammates decided that throwing him the ball was vastly overrated, but when he did touch the ball good things usually happened. At near 6-foot-9 with good athleticism and length, Narain showed why he is such a good prospect. He runs the floor very well, has a nice touch, and shows some feel with the ball on the block. His opportunities were limited, but overall it was a solid start to things for Narain.
