Media Days Preview: Illinois

Big Ten Media days are quickly approaching, coming up in Chicago on Monday and Tuesday -- check out the lowdown of who will be there for the Illini.

Another football season is fast approaching -- with just over a month until kickoff August 30th against Youngstown State.

The first official event of the football season is Big Ten Media days, in Chicago which will be held Monday and Tuesday.

Representing the Illini will be head coach Tim Beckman, senior offensive lineman Simon Cvijanovic, senior tight end Jon Davis, and senior defensive lineman Austin Teitsma.

Each year, the media hears from the head coaches as they step up on the podium and the players in a more intimate press conference setting.

Beckman's charisma has carried over well to the podium in years past and you can bet he will be asked about new Illini quarterback Wes Lunt, offensive coordinator Bill Cubit and how the defense plans to stack up to the offense. Also likely is a focus on how the JUCO prospects are fitting in and what the focus has been this offseason.

As for the three athletes:

Simon Cvijanovic: Last season Cvijanovic played in 11 out of the 12 games last year at left tackle for nine of them. The sole game he missed was due to injury. Expected to anchor the offensive line with the probability of seeing some new and young faces alongside him.

Jon Davis: Has prototypical size for a tight end, and has big expectations coming from the Illini camp. Played in all 12 games last year, starting seven. Will be relied on as a big part of the offense this season. He was an Academic All-Big Ten selection.

Austin Teitsma: Expected to be the leader of the defensive line, starting all 12 games at defensive tackle last season. Recorded 53-tackles on the season. A Chicago area native, from Glenbard South.
