Thomas took his five official visits to LSU, Oklahoma State, Illinois, SMU, and Texas A&M. The powerful low post scorer set down with us to discuss his mindset heading into one of the biggest days of his life. He says as of Sunday afternoon he still doesn't know where he is heading.
"No I haven't made up my mind yet."
Thomas will not have any more in-home visits and doesn't expect any coaches at his school before he announces. Heading into the visits Illinois and Oklahoma State were considered the co-favorites. Texas A&M has made up some ground in recent weeks as they received the last official visit and are coming off a commitment from his good friend and four-star shooting guard Admon Gilder. What is he looking at to separate the remaining programs at this late stage?
"Winning, strength of schedule, and family bond with the team that will be my teammates."
The Illini coaching staff led by head coach John Groce and assistant coach Jamall Walker identified Thomas early and made him a priority. The senior has built a great relationship with Groce and discussed what they have talked about as decision day nears.
"Just go with my heart. He's a really good coach. And I respect that he isn't going over board with it. He's just taking to me every now and then."
Thomas will announce his college choice at 1:30 PM at his high school on Tuesday.
