Florida ATH to Join Teammate at Illinois

Delray Beach (FL) American Heritage safety Trenard Davis chooses Illinois following his visit and will join high school teammate Desmond Cain in the 'Paign.

Trenard Davis caused a stir when he decided to forego a visit to Wisconsin, instead electing to head to Champaign and visit Illinois on the final weekend before signing day.

While the writing may have been on the wall at that point, Trenard Davis made his commitment official on Tuesday when he chose the Illini.

Davis, a 6'1, 195 pound athlete, plays on both sides of the ball for his high school team, he most likely will end up in the secondary at Illinois as a safety.

Davis' visit likely sealed the deal.

"The visit went well," Davis said. "I enjoyed being there. It was exactly what I expected it to be."

The camaraderie he formed with the Illinois players was a huge boost in Illinois' favor as he felt welcome from the start.

"Being around the players, they showed me brotherhood," Davis said. "The school is a good academic school, and I loved that about it as well."

Davis said teammate Desmond Cain, also set to sign with Illinois, didn't talk to him too much about his decision and let him make his own choice.

Now, Illinois hopes to strike it rich again with another pair of talented high school teammates in Nashville (TN) Pearl Cohn HS running back KeShawn Vaughn and CB/WR Cameron Watkins, as the two are expected to announce their decisions on National Signing Day this Wednesday.
