East Saint Louis rising senior offensive lineman Tre'Vour Simms was one of the top prospects at the Illini Big Man Camp on campus Saturday.
Measuring in at 6-4.75, 332-pounds he moved well, and drew the attention of nearly the entire coaching staff.
“I just liked the feel. I liked everything about it from the drills to the coaching staff, to the players. I liked everything,” Simms said.
There were some reasons why Simms thought he played so well at the Illini camp. Mainly, because he felt like he had something to prove.
“Me being slept on as an athlete just gave me a chip on my shoulder to go out there and prove the girl wrong. That’s what I did.
So, at the end of the camp — Simms made a decision and told it directly to head coach Tim Beckman.
“I committed to Illinois. I am excited about begin a Fighting Illini. It’s my state,” Simms said.
With his size and athleticism, Simms could make a quick impact in Champaign.
“It’s a blessing. To get my team and the state. Rep the state out. I can travel home whenever I need,” Simms said.
