2017 PG Receives Illinois Offer

Illinois has already extended numerous offers to a talented in-state class in 2017, but the Illini crossed state lines for their latest offer to 2017 PG Jordan Poole.

Rufus King (WI) 2017 combo guard Jordan Poole informed us on Friday night that he has received an offer from Illinois.

The Scouting Report:

Poole is a 6’2” combo guard that runs with Playground Elite on the travel team circuit. He impressed us when we saw him at the Nike Elite 100 camp in St. Louis earlier this month. Poole plays with a lot of flare and creativity to his game. The rising junior gets in the lane, where he makes plays by either pulling up with a jumper or finding his teammates for shots. He just has an overall great feel for the game and plays with toughness. His jumper has range that extends well beyond the three point arc.

The Offer:

“The head coach just called and we talked for about 20 minutes and that was it," he said. "(We) talked about a lot.”

Head Coach John Groce spoke with the young guard about how he would fit in with their program.

“I know they recruit who best fits their program," Poole said. "It means a lot that they want a point guard like me and I would be a good teammate as well.”

Poole talked a little bit about what stands out about the Illinois program.

“I know they recruit a lot of inner city kids and they are contenders in the Big 10," he said. "I like the school and its pretty close.”

He doesn’t have any plans to get to campus before July starts, but would like to visit Champaign in the fall.

“I Haven’t discussed it yet," Poole said, "but I most definitely want to catch a football game.”

One interesting note is that Poole is close with fellow Illini target and Stevenson small forward Justin Smith, who played with Poole for Playground Elite in previous years.
