Gavin, who hails from the same high school as current Illinois offensive lineman Nick Allegretti, was in attendance at the Illinois satellite camp at his high school, and had lots of positive things to say about Illinois.
"When I went to Illinois, it was definitely a great place to be at,” he said. "The academics there are top notch. It’s one of the best academic schools."
Allergen never pressured Gavin throughout the process, but he was in his ear a lot, and the duo both bring a tough-nosed mindset and a tireless work ethic to the field.
"Nicky Allegretti, who is at Illinois, told me just to have fun with the process, don’t get too stressed out with it, and just keep working hard,” Gavin said. "I still make my main focus winning a state championship right now, though.”
Gavin is working toward being more of a vocal leader for his team. Especially going into his senior year, he wants to lead not only by his words, but by his example as well.
"I learned a lot from last year’s class about being vocal and having a voice,” he said. "Be that person everyone looks up to and be the hardest worker. Then people will follow you."
Gavin’s recruiting process started off a little slow, but after a while, things picked up and he collected several solid offers before deciding Illinois was the place to be.
