FNL Kickoff: Brother Rice (x2)

Two schools, one name, one showdown Saturday afternoon on Chicago's southwest side.

In the "Battle of Brother Rice's", Chicago-based Brother Rice takes on Bloomfield Hill (MI) Brother Rice in what should be an interesting matchup.

The home-state team boasts a couple of division one prospects, most notably a junior wide receiver who is already hauling in Power Five offers in Ricky Smalling.

Smalling, who already holds offers from Illinois, Virginia, and Wisconsin, is the biggest offensive weapon for the Crusaders. With the departure of electric running back Marcus Jones (now at Northern Illinois), Smalling will be a focal point for the offensive attack.

Smalling is a big-bodied and well-built receiver who has the ability to go up and get it. He isn't a top-end burner speed-wise, but has the playmaking ability to get open and make other teams pay with big plays.

The visitors from Michigan are in serious "re-load" mode this season after graduating a senior class full of D1 talent from last year.

The headliners of last year's senior class for the Warriors were a pair of Michigan commits: QB Alex Malzone and WR Grant Perry. The duo's absence will undoubtedly be felt this year, but one key returning offensive player and fellow Michigan commit Carter Dunaway provides some continuity to the offense.

Dunaway's lone offer came from Michigan, but it ended up being the only one he needed. The 6'5, 235 pound tight end not only has the frame to be a capable blocker, but with the departure of key playmakers from last year, he figures to be a huge factor in the passing game. That is, however, if they can get him the ball.
