With 2016 point guard Xavier Simpson announcing his commitment to Michigan on Wednesday, the Illini utilized the recruiting period to travel up to Milwaukee and visit four-star point guard target Te'Jon Lucas.
The point guard dominos are falling in the Midwest, as Illinois was a finalist for Simpson and Michigan was an option for Lucas. Illinois assistant Paris Parham stopped in to see Lucas on Wednesday morning. The Illini have been pushing to lock in an official visit with the Milwaukee native, and now they have done that.
Lucas is coming off an official visit to USC and he has one scheduled to Old Dominion this weekend. He was set for an official to Memphis the following weekend, but he will head to Champaign instead.
"I have decided to cancel the Memphis visit and give Illinois the weekend of September 18th," Lucas told IlliniInquirer.com.
Lucas added that he will have an in-home visit with Illini head coach John Groce on Wednesday afternoon. The talented playmaker took an unofficial visit to Champaign at the beginning of August.
