Xavier Sneed commits to Kansas State over Illini

Illini still have two scholarship spots open in Class of 2016 after missing on St. Louis area wing

Hazelwood (Mo.) Central wing Xavier Sneed has committed to Kansas State, he announced on KDSK Channel 5 in St. Louis. Illinois was in Sneed's final three.

Sneed took official visits to all three finalists: Illinois in August, Kansas State earlier this month and Xavier last weekend. The Illini coaching staff visited Sneed at his St. Louis home last week. The 6-foot-5, athletic wing would have given Illinois much-needed athleticism and defense on the perimeter.

Illinois currently has one commitment in the Class of 2016, Milwaukee point guard Te'Jon Lucas, and currently has two open scholarships for the next signing class.

The Illini's biggest need remains a post player. The staff recently hosted top-50 Class of 2016 prospect James Banks, a top-10 center in the class, for an unofficial visit, along with the rest of his La Lumiere Prep team.
