Huge Recruiting Opportunity on Saturday

Illini Inquirer football recruiting analyst Ryan Easterling explains what's at stake from a recruiting standpoint this weekend as the Illini are set to host a strong contingent of visitors.

Cream of the Crop:

Detroit WR Donnie Corley is one of the most talented skill players in the entire Midwest.  His playmaking ability at the WR position makes him an extremely coveted prospect.  Illinois has been on him for a long time, and he originally planned a spring visit, but did not make the trip.  Now that the Illini have him on campus, it's a huge opportunity to impress him.

Another explosive prospect from the Midwest in 2017 is East St. Louis WR Jeff Thomas.  Thomas, who checks in as Scout's #33 overall player in 2017, has game-breaking speed and agility.  He's a threat to take the ball the distance any time he touches it.  It doesn't hurt that 2016 teammate Tre'Vour Simms, an Illinois commit, is also visiting and will undoubtedly be in his ear.

Tre Johnson, an offensive tackle by label out of the Orlando area, has had his eyes on a visit to Illinois for some time now.  The 6'7", 280 pound lineman has an excellent frame and a similar body type to current Illinois DE Jihad Ward, which may be why some schools, including Illinois, could be looking at him on the defensive side as well as a strong-side defensive end.

Other Key Visitors:

2016 Rockford (IL) Auburn S/CB Juwuane Parchman - Parchman has taken a couple of visits to nearby Wisconsin the last couple weeks, but remains committed to Illinois.  A big win on Saturday would go a long way toward keeping the athletic defender in the fold.

2017 Rockford (IL) Auburn OL Vederian Lowe - A teammate of Parchman's, Lowe is a big-bodied offensive tackle who could end up either outside or on the interior in college.  He is surprisingly nimble for his size and is a finisher.  Illinois was Lowe's first offer, but other schools are growing closer and closer to extending a scholarship to the blooming OL.

2016 East St. Louis (IL) OL Tre'Vour Simms - A year elder to Jeff Thomas, Tre'Vour Simms earned an offer at the Illinois Big Man Camp this summer, and he quickly jumped on it.  Simms plays a nasty brand of football in the trenches (in a good way, of course).  He is physical at the point of attack and is a mauler.  Illinois hopes on Saturday he can also be a good recruiter.

2015 Delray Beach (FL) American Heritage S Trenard Davis - One of the more interesting names on the list, Illinois is hosting one-time signee Trenard Davis, whose academic saga is with the University of Illinois well-documented.  But that fiasco aside, it's good to see Davis still very interested in Illinois, and the plan is for him to join HS teammate Desmond Cain at Illinois before too long.

2017 Olentangy (OH) Liberty TE Drew Rosi & 2017 Cincinnati (OH) LaSalle RB Jarell White - A duo of offensive playmakers will be in Champaign on Saturday from the state of Ohio.  Rosi, who hails from the same hometown as current Illinois OL Austin Schmidt, already holds an offer from the Illini and Toledo.  Jarell White is a prototypical back who has very good speed for his size.
