Illinois interim AD Paul Kowalczyk made comments on the radio on Wednesday afternoon, stating that a decision would need to be made on Cubit by Sunday, the day after the Illini conclude their regular season. The nature of those comments led many to believe that Cubit would likely be coaching in his final game as coach at Illinois against Northwestern.
Then, later Wednesday evening per reports from the Chicago Tribune, Illinois was exploring the option of working up a two-year contract for the 62-year old Cubit. Whether it's Cubit or any other coaching candidate, a two-year contract is one of the most mind-numbing decisions an already bumbling administration could make.
I talked about Cubit, Groce, and the AD situation in this installment of the 5th Quarter Podcast.
