Vaughn returns, Spencer questionable

Illinois freshman running back will be available against Northwestern

CHAMPAIGN - Running back Ke'Shawn Vaughn is not listed on this week's Illinois football injury report and will be available to play in Saturday's game against Northwestern at Soldier Field. The freshman running back did not travel with the team to Minnesota last week due to a concussion suffered the previous week against Ohio State.

"If this past Saturday's game was on Monday, he would've been ready to go," Illini interim coach Bill Cubit said on Monday. "Unfortunately, we're not in the NFL. I'm almost positive we'll have him ready."

Vaughn has run for 661 yards and team-leading six touchdowns this season and has 15 catches for 118 yards. He won Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors after running for a season-high 180 yards and two touchdowns in a 48-14 win at Purdue on Nov. 7.

Illinois junior center Joe Spencer is listed as questionable after leaving the Minnesota game with an unspecified injury. He has started 22 straight games, and the Illini have started the same five offensive linemen in every game this season. Redshirt freshman Nick Allegretti likely would start at center if Spencer cannot play.
