CHAMPAIGN - Illinois football will host several official visitors this weekend, including a half-dozen commitments. The Illini also are hosting four uncommitted prospects at two big-need positions.
Illinois commitment visitors:
- Kenyon Jackson, DT
- Kurt Gavin, OL
- Jake Cerny, OL
- Trevour Simms, OL
- Josh Black, DE
- Antonio Shelton, DT
- Stanley Green, DB: The East St. Louis product is teammates with current Illini commit Trevour Simms, who also will be visiting. The hard hitter would give the Illini some size and physicality in the secondary. And with the Illini losing three secondary starters, immediate playing time is available.
- Bryce Banks, DB: The Illini have been chasing Banks for a while and are in his top-two, along with NC State. His decision may come down to whether he can enroll early. At NC State, it appears he'll have that chance. At Illinois, it appears he'd have to be a summer enrollee. Simmons would fill two needs: size and physicality.
- Isaiah Simmons, S: The 6-foot-3 four-star safety has an impressive offer list, but the Illini will sell immediate playing time.
- Shemar Smith, LB: With the likely loss of Julian Jones, Illinois has a need for speed and size at linebacker. The 6-foot-2 Miami native received a visit from assistant Nathan Scheelhaase this week. He'd give Illinois a needed speed boost.
