Signing Day Spotlight: Christion Abercrombie

The letter is in for Atlanta (GA) Westlake LB Christion Abercrombie. Here's a closer look at the new Illini signee.

Commitment Date: 1/24/2016

Twitter Handle: @ab3_____

Why Illinois?

Abercrombie, a high school teammate of (currently suspended) LB Julian Jones, was a long-time Western Kentucky commit before electing to flip to the Illini after an official visit in January.  He's slightly undersized, but would have both familiar company and a good opportunity at a fairly open position at Illinois.

Evaluation:

Abercrombie is a tough-nosed linebacker who played on the interior in high school, but would likely be used as an outside linebacker in college.  He is able to make plays in the run game, but also shows on tape that he has the ability to be effective against the pass.

What remains to be seen is how well he will adjust to Big Ten football.  Being used to playing inside linebacker, he will need to adjust to the speed of the college game on the outside and learn to make correct reads from a different position.  He may take a year or two to bloom, but appears to have the natural instincts to be a solid linebacker in the future.
