In short, Illinois needed a running back in this class after parting ways with other prior commits for various reasons, but that by no means is a slight to Nation. Nation was an extremely productive running back in high school, setting several records en route to a state championship.
Illinois has plenty of small to mid-size running backs, however they lack a broad-shouldered power back, and Nation should bring that new dimension to Illinois.
Scout.com Auburn reporter Jason Caldwell said Nation "is just a warrior. Not a blazer in terms of speed, but has great feet and can move the pile. He'll probably play at 215 or even 220 and I think he's a steal for Illinois. Great kid too and comes from a program that has won several state titles."
Nation is a patient runner who picks his gaps well and doesn't look to always bounce a run outside, something that has been a bad habit of some Illinois running backs in the last couple years. Illinois has struggled to establish a consistent "between the tackles" runner the last couple years, and Nation might just be the medicine for that ill.
