CHAMPAIGN - Illinois will not host its annual Orange and Blue Spring Game this spring, but new coach Lovie Smith will allow newly-excited fans to watch an open practice on Saturday, April 16 (1 p.m.).
Smith announced an adjusted spring schedule following his surprise hire by athletics director Josh Whitman on March 7. Illinois was supposed to start spring practice on March 11, but Whitman dismissed head coach Bill Cubit on March 5.
The Illini will officially start practice on Friday, April 1, which coincides with the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Clinic (March 31-April 2). The Illini will host 15 practices, wrapping up on Tuesday, April 26.
Admission and parking for the open practice is free.
