Illini dismiss strength coach

Lovie Smith will bring in own strength staff; director of football operations retained

CHAMPAIGN - Illinois football coach Lovie Smith on Monday dismissed strength and conditioning coach Aaron Hillman and the rest of the strength staff, Illinois confirmed to IlliniInquirer.com.

Hillman, hired by former Illini head coach Tim Beckman in 2012, had served in the role for Illinois for the past four seasons.

Like most coaches, Smith will hire his own strength and conditioning staff.

Smith will retain director of football operations Tim Knox, who has served in the role since 2012. Knox handles the logistics of team travel, summer camps and community service efforts.
