Jamir Whitelow has been going to Illinois games as long as he can remember. Being from Peoria, Champaign isn't far away, and Whitelow has always had a strong interest in his home-state program.
"I've been going to games for my birthday with mom and dad since I was 9," Whitelow said. "My mom loves Coach (Nathan) Scheelhaase, and my dad always hates leaving Champaign."
Aside from Illinois, Whitelow is also hearing from Illinois State, Northern Illinois, Southern Illinois, Indiana, Cincinnati, Central Michigan, Bowling Green, Iowa, Toledo, Kansas, Minnesota, and Iowa State. He mentioned that he is also getting letters from Notre Dame, too.
Whitelow, who holds offers from both Illinois and Western Michigan, says he plans a spring visit to see the program he has long followed.
"I should be visiting U of I soon," Whitelow said. "I'll probably be coming with my high school coach."
Whitelow still wants to be recruited by all schools, but says that Illinois is standing out to him early on for a lot of reasons.
"Let's just say It feels like home every time I visit," he said. "I don't really get that feeling from other schools. I've been visiting campus since I was 9, so I don't know, but I'm still going to weigh out my options. But U of I is most definitely family's favorite as of now."
Aside from college visits this spring, Whitelow plans to compete at the Nike Regional NFTC combine in Chicago as well as a couple other camps.
