CHAMPAIGN - The Lovie Smith era of Illinois football will receive its primetime close-up during the new head coach's second game with the Illini.
Big Ten Network announced Monday morning that it will broadcast the Illini's Sept. 10 home game against North Carolina at 6:30 p.m. CT. The Illini lost at UNC 48-14 last season.
The Week 2 game will be the first night game the Illini have hosted at Memorial Stadium since a 56-32 loss to Wisconsin in 2013. The Illini were scheduled to host a Friday night game in last season's season opener against Kent State, but it was postponed a day due to inclement weather.
The Week 2 game is the first game time to be announced. The Illini open the season Sept. 3 at home against Murray State and close the three-game nonconference season on Sept. 17 against Western Michigan. The Illini then have a bye week before starting Big Ten play at Nebraska on Oct. 1. Check out the entire schedule.
