Five-star big man Jeremiah Tilmon told IlliniInquirer.com that he had surgery on his left shoulder on Thursday.
Tilmon dislocated his shoulder on April 2 in New York City during the DICK'S Sporting Goods Nationals title game. He will be out the rest of the summer with hopes of returning at the beginning of the high school season in November.
Last week, Tilmon was selected to participate in the 2016 USA Basketball Men's U18 National Team training camp, which starts in June. But his recovery will not allow for that to happen.
Illini head coach John Groce and assistant Jamall Walker had an in-home visit with Tilmon's mom, April, last month in East St. Louis. They met with Tilmon at La Lumiere later that day.
Tilmon also had visits with North Carolina, Michigan State and UCLA last month at La Lumiere. Kansas was in for an in-home visit with his mom too.
With Tilmon out from AAU ball, the consequential effect on his recruitment will be interesting to monitor. Programs have already shown that they won't back off.
"I don't know when I want to narrow my stuff down," Tilmon told IlliniInquirer.com last month. "If I would have been playing right now, I probably would have narrowed it down over the summer. But since I'm out, I'm just gonna have fun with it."
