QB Peters Transferring to Toledo

Former Sandalwood (FL) HS QB and Illini early-enrollee Eli Peters announced on Friday afternoon that he would be transferring to Toledo.

It was a bit of a square peg in a round hole situation for former Sandalwood (FL) QB Eli Peters, who announced on Twitter Friday afternoon that he would be transferring from Illinois to Toledo.

Peters, who never took an official snap at Illinois, was recruited by Bill Cubit and his former staff prior to the arrival of Lovie Smith and new offensive coordinator Garrick McGee.  McGee prefers a more mobile quarterback and a read option system, so Peters may have felt out of place after spending the spring in a system for which he wasn't recruited.

Illinois currently has Wes Lunt, Chayce Crouch, Jimmy Fitzgerald, and Jeff George Jr. as scholarship quarterbacks on the roster, while Marian Catholic QB Cam Thomas is already committed in the 2017 class.
