June is typically a big month for visits, and the Illini are in the midst of a big-time weekend in Champaign with the top in-state point guards in 2018 and 2019 coming through for visits.
St. Joe's rising sophomore Marquise Walker visited Illinois with his father on Saturday, and after the visit and offer, Walker named the home-state program his leader.
"Illinois is at the top right now," Walker told IlliniInquirer.com.
On Sunday, the Illini are set to host Morgan Park 2018 point guard Ayo Dosunmu -- his father confirmed to IlliniInquirer.com on Friday night. Dosunmu will head to Champaign at the conclusion of the Nike Elite 100 Camp in St. Louis.
Dosunmu is a top-level talent, and he continues to put that on display. He was ranked No. 28 overall in the Scout.com 2018 rankings this week, which was the highest of anyone in the state.
The Illini extended an offer to the 6-foot-3 playmaker in early May.
"It's always good to get acknowledged by your hometown team," Dosunmu told IlliniInquirer.com. "I know a lot about Illinois. All the way back to when they had Deron Williams and made it to the NCAA championship game. Every year they play, I root for them. So it was just a great feeling to get an offer from them."
Strong point guard play is a major catalyst for winning basketball, and the Illini will look to make another strong impression on Sunday with a target who can bring that to Champaign in the future.
