Illini target Houston Griffith cracks first edition of 2018 Scout 100

Son of Illini great comes in at No. 83 in first 2018 Scout 100 rankings

It's getting to the point where it's almost easier to list the power-five programs who haven't offered Houston Griffith. Now, the 2018 Mt. Carmel defensive back's ranking reflects that.

Griffith, the son of Illini great and Big Ten Network analyst Howard Griffith, is the lone in-state prospect to crack's Top 100 for the Class of 2018, coming in at No. 83 overall.

The four-star prospect holds dozens of offers, including Illinois, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Georgia, Florida State, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Nebraska, Florida and Tennessee.

Two other in-state prospects also received four-star rankings: Mt. Carmel lineman Verdis Brown and Lincoln-Way East defensive end Devin O'Rourke. Both hold Illini offers.

Illinois was the first to offer Brown this spring. He has since received offers from Florida State, Ohio State, Missouri and Purdue. Brown participated in the Illini satellite camp at Chicago earlier this month. He also attended but did not participate in the Illini's Big Man camp a few weeks ago.

Iowa State was the first to offer O'Rourke, but Illinois, Northwestern and Wisconsin have offered in the past few months. O'Rourke attended but did not participate in the Illini's satellite camp at his high school earlier this month.

Illinois has extended scholarship offers to three other 2018 in-state products: Chicago Solorio QB Quincy Patterson, Warren WR Micah Jones and Bolingbrook CB I'Shawn Stewart.
