Illinois is trying to add more Texas talent, and it will host an emerging Lone Star State target on Wednesday.
Silsbee (Texas) running back Calvin Tyler will make his first trip north to the Illinois campus for an overnight unofficial visit.
Illinois is looking for difference-making running backs in the Class of 2017 and the small but shifty tailback has game-breaking speed.
As a junior at Beaumont (Texas) Ozen, Tyler rushed for 1,809 yards on 24 touchdowns on 204 carries (8.9 ypc). Illinois running backs coach Thad Ward has been the Illini's main recruiter for Tyler, who has a dozen offers. His only power-five offer though is from Cal.
"I love the whole coaching staff I met so far," Tyler told Illini Inquirer on Tuesday. "Me and Coach Thad been talking for a while now, so it was only right I take visit up there and meet Coach Lovie."
Tyler isn't the only big visitor for the Illini this week. Illinois is expected to host almost 20 of its top targets for a Thursday barbecue recruiting event. Get the list of visitors in The Recruiting Lounge link below.
