East St. Louis (Ill.) wide receiver Jeff Thomas, the No. 48 prospect in the Class of 2017 Scout 300, is on his way to visit Illinois on Saturday, a source told Illini Inquirer.
Thomas holds offers from some of the top programs in the country and recently released a top-six that includes Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Michigan State, Missouri and Texas A&M. He also holds offers from Michigan, Nebraska and Ohio State.
The in-state receiver has drawn comparisons to St. Louis Rams wide receiver Tavon Austin. Thomas won the fastest man competition at The Opening Finals, a combine-like competition among some of the best prospects in the country.
Scout.com Midwest recruiting analyst Allen Trieu says of Thomas: "Fast, explosive athlete who has outstanding burst, acceleration and ability to cut while moving full speed. Creates a lot of separation with that and is not only a deep threat, but a guy who can take short passes and go the distance at any time. He is also an excellent return man. He is not a big receiver and currently must get stronger to supplement his speed and athleticism."
