The Illini will play host to a big-time visitor on Saturday with five-star 2018 point guard Ayo Dosunmu coming to town -- his father told IlliniInquirer.com.
Champaign will be buzzing with Lovie Smith and the Illini football team making their season debut against Murray State, and the hoops program will take advantage by bringing in the state's top player in the junior class.
Dosunmu visited the Illini campus in June following the Elite 100 Camp in St. Louis.
"The visit was good," Dosunmu told IlliniInquirer.com in June. "Really nice campus. The coaches were very hospitable. Saw a great deal of the campus. For my first unofficial, I was very impressed."
http://www.scout.com/college/illinois/story/1677984-ayo-dosunmu-very-imp... It's hard not to be impressed with what Dosunmu did on the court this spring and summer. He is an electric scorer at the lead guard spot, and he is currently ranked at No. 20 overall in the class in the latest Scout.com rankings.
The 6-foot-3 point guard averaged 18.8 points, five rebounds and 3.5 assists playing up on the 17U level on the EYBL circuit in May. He is the next star to come from the Mac Irvin Fire program, and Chicago as a whole.
Look for Dosunmu to put on a show at Morgan Park this season, and the Illini will be chasing him hard. It is a good sign for John Groce and the program to get him down to Champaign multiple times since offering him in May.
