Florida WR D.J. Edwards visiting Illini on Saturday

Palm Beach wideout's first official visit will be to Champaign

Despite more than 15 scholarship offers, D.J. Edwards' first official visit will be to Illinois. He will take in the Illini's primetime showdown against North Carolina on Saturday.

“I want to see the coaching staff, the vibe and facilities and just to see the campus," Edwards told Illini Inquirer on Monday.

Edwards -- who has offers from the likes of Penn State, Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri, Louisville, Missouri and Pittsburgh -- said he took unofficial visits to Miami, Kentucky and Florida Atlantic during the summer. He'll get the red-carpet treatment in Champaign on Saturday.

For a player with NFL dreams, the Illini coaching staff's vast NFL experience is appealing.

"The coaching staff, their NFL experience, and Coach Lovie stand out," Edwards said.

The Illini have already landed two of their top receiver targets in the Class of 2017 in Chicago four-star Ricky Smalling and Miami three-star Carmoni Green
