East St. Louis WR Jeff Thomas to visit Illini for UNC game

East St. Louis WR Jeff Thomas to visit Illini for second time since start of August

UPDATE: Friday, Sept. 9

Due to the postponement of East St. Louis' Friday night game to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jeff Thomas no longer will be able to visit Illinois on Saturday.

Thursday Sept. 8

The top uncommitted player in the state of Illinois and one of the most dynamic offensive weapons in the country will visit Illinois on Saturday.

Multiple sources told Illini Inquirer that East St. Louis (Ill.) receiver Jeff Thomas will take an unofficial visit to Illinois for its primetime showdown against North Carolina, marking Thomas' second trip to Illinois since the start of August.

http://www.scout.com/college/illinois/story/1702972-illini-football-recr... Thomas recently told Scout.com that he was down to two, Alabama and Missouri, but that hasn't stopped the Illini from pursuing a player whose elite quickness and elite speed is reminiscent of Tavon Austin.

Thomas visited the Illini for a training camp practice on August 6.

"It changes a lot," Thomas said last month of the visit, "because I could finally see it for myself, instead of like hearing it."

He added: "Illinois has jumped up."

Illinois is trying to push back into East St. Louis, which produced former Illini like Dana Howard and Terry Hawthorne. But Missouri has recently grabbed the most talented Flyers, including Terry BecknerNatereace Strong and Tre'Vour Simms. The Tigers also recently took a  commitment from Thomas' quarterback, Reyondous Estes.

The Illini also will host 2017 official visitors Cincinnati OL Howard Watkins, Florida DE/LB Diego Fagot and Florida WR D.J. Edwards, as well as Ohio RB Ra'Von Bonner who will make his second unofficial visit in as many weeks.

The Illini also will host several top 2018 targets. Chicago Mt. Carmel  DL/OL Verdis Brown will make the trip as well as several standout Missouri products including DT Trevor Trout, WR Kamryn Babb, WR Cameron Brown and QB Kaleb Eleby.
