Illinois needs more Big Ten-caliber defensive linemen for its future rosters. On Saturday, the Illini are expected to host a player who was part of one of the Big Ten's best defensive lines.
Enoch Smith Jr. will visit Illinois for Saturday's game against Michigan State, according to Scout.com's Allen Trieu.
The 6-foot-2, 293 pound Chicago Mt. Carmel product was the No. 30 defensive tackle prospect in 2014 and the top-rated tackle in the state's class of 2014. Smith Jr. redshirted the 2014 season in East Lansing, Mich., and made three appearances as a redshirt freshman.
Smith Jr. left Michigan State last month after struggling to crack the Spartans' rotation and is currently enrolled at Butler County Community College this fall. He is expected to enroll at his college of choice next spring. He will be eligible immediately and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Smith Jr. had originally planned to visit Kentucky this week, according to Trieu, and may make that visit later this fall.
