Illini offer 2017 big man Kenneth Wooten

Illini widen net for 2017 big man

Illinois already has a five-star big man commitment (Jeremiah Tilmon) in the Class of 2017. But with the prospect of losing Tilmon and veterans Leron Black and Michael Finke by the end of the 2018-19 season, the Illini are searching for even more depth in the post.

The Illini recently hosted Florida big man Mayan Kiir for an official visit and Australian import Jacob Epperson for an unofficial visit.

Now, they're casting an even wider net in their search for future post depth by extending a scholarship offer to Las Vegas big man Kenneth Wooten, according to's Josh Gershon.

Wooten, a 6-foot-8, 205-pound center originally from Manteca (Calif.), signed with Nevada in 2016.

However, Wooten transferred to Las Vegas Trinity International and reclassified to 2017. After spending several months contemplating his commitment, Wooten asked for a release from his Letter of Intent.

He currently has offers from California, Arizona State, Kansas State, Oregon State, UNLV, Utah, USC and Washington State, among others.

Wooten doesn't plan to sign until the spring, telling “I’m not planning any visits until after December."
