Illini WR Mike Dudek will not play in 2016

For second straight season, 2014 Freshman All-American will not step onto the field

Illinois wide receiver Mike Dudek will not play during the 2016 season, his father confirmed to Illini Inquirer.

"He is going to wait until next year (to return)," Rick Dudek said.

Dudek, a Scout.com Freshman All-American in 2014, has missed the last two seasons after tearing his right ACL in back-to-back springs.

Renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews performed the latest surgery in April.

As a freshman, Dudek caught 76 passes for 1,038 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

"He is doing well and everything is on track, but this season is almost over," Rick Dudek said. "He's only 7 months (removed from his second ACL tear) as of tomorrow. That's quick to come back."
