Caleb Day leaves Illini program

Senior suffered season-ending ACL tear in September

CHAMPAIGN - Caleb Day has left the Illinois football program, an Illinois spokesman confirmed to Illini Inquirer.

The senior safety suffered a season-ending ACL tear during the Sept. 10 Week 2 game against North Carolina.

Day is still enrolled the university and is on track to graduate this spring. He fits the criteria for a medical hardship waiver and if he receives one, he could transfer to another program and play immediately due to the graduate transfer rule.

Day, a three-star recruit out of Hillard (Ohio) Darby, played 31 games during his Illini career, totaling 34 tackles, one interception, two pass break ups and one forced fumble.
