Illini sophomore receiver Desmond Cain announces transfer

After big freshman season, Cain had just five catches as a sophomore

Illini sophomore wide receiver Desmond Cain announced Thursday on Twitter that he is transferring. He will have three years to finish off his final two years of eligibility.

Cain made a big impact as a freshman, hauling in 53 receptions for 492 yards and one touchdown. His role diminished as a sophomore under a new coaching staff, totaling just five catches for 61 yards in five games. Cain said on Twitter: "After talking it over with my family it's best to move closer home to finish off my next few years in college! Thank you Illini! Has been amazing these two years I've been here and thank you all for the major support GO ILLINI!"

Two other Illini, Caleb Day and Eddy Fish, left the program during the season.
