Zamari Maxwell has received double-digit power-five conference scholarship offers. He plans to check out three of those options before the Feb. 1 Signing Day.
"My mindset is simple really," Maxwell told Illini Inquirer. "If they meet my requirements then it's (about) me being comfortable. And I'm hoping to see if they'll make me feel at home, honestly because these schools are all out of state. I need to be around a family atmosphere."
Maxwell will visit Iowa State this weekend. What sticks out so far about the Cyclones?
"Their loyalty," Maxwell said. "They're honest, and they make me feel as if I'm already a part of what they have going on."
Illinois has been in contact with Maxwell and an Illini assistant may visit him down in Florida before Maxwell's planned official visit the weekend of Jan. 20.
"They surprised me," Maxwell said. "Coach Lovie (Smith) came down to see me on his own. That showed me they were serious about me, and they have a need for DBs. (Lovie) has connections, and everybody says he is like a father figure with good guidance on helping athletes become a better man."
Maxwell said Kentucky, where he will visit on Jan. 27, has been in on him longer than most schools.
"They were my second offer," Maxwell said. "They have stuck around letting me know I'm a priority. I just have to visit to get a feel."
Maxwell also said he is still considering home-state Central Florida, where he took an official visit in October. He plans to make a decision close to Signing Day.
"After my visits, everything should be sorted out," Maxwell said.null
